Babies are the most precious gifts of nature. Babies bring happiness and joy to your house like heaven. But many people do not know the first task after bringing the baby at home. Yes, it is having a space for the new member of your family.

Many people make mistakes while deciding this. They make a separate room for keeping their baby thinking this will be great for their kids regarding creativity and personality. Though this is right, you should not leave your newborn alone in a room. Share your room with newborn babies up to a certain time to avoid difficulties.

Why should you share your room with your baby?

Sharing a room with your baby has very important consequences. Studies of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) show that sharing room with your baby decreases the rate of ‘Sudden Infant Death Syndrome’ (SIDS)  decreases by 50 percent.

Room sharing also makes breastfeeding easier for the mother. Breast milk gets digested faster. So babies get hungry within a short time. It is helpful for mothers to breastfeed while the baby lives in the same room.

It is also very effective in case if you have a tiny apartment and have difficulty getting another room for your baby.

AAP suggests to keep your baby in your room but a different bed for at least 4 months. It is better to keep them there up to the first year of infancy. It also helps in the sound sleep of your baby.

Keep your baby within view:

The main reason to share a room with a newborn is to save your kiddo from SIDS risk. To avoid this risk, you always need to keep an eye on your baby. So keep your baby closer to you wherever you sleep.

Emphasize on early six months:

Though AAP suggests keeping your baby with you for the whole year, you may have an issue with the space of your room. If it is, then you might consider sharing a room with your infant for the initial six months.

Acquire multiple usable furniture:

Try to get furniture that can be utilized for multiple uses. Get a crib that can be also used as a changing table or with extra storage facilities.

Cover your floor:

Use thick and soft carpets on your floor so that there does not produce any kind of noise which may disturb the baby’s sleep. Use heavy curtains on windows also to make your room soundproof.

Divide the nursery space:

Split up the nursery space and your regular room by a curtain and or by a room divider. This will allow your baby to get personal space. As babies sleep at daytime also, sunlight might be a problem to sleep. This is why separate babies’ sleeping space from the outer environment.

Avoid oversized furniture:

Use furniture of just size which you need. Using bigger sized furniture will take-up additional space of your room. So use the furniture which you need.

Paint your wall:

The corner which is fixed for baby nursing may have a distinct colour. Colours help your kid to focus and it has an impact on their psychology too. You may use colours like red, orange, light blue, or greenish shade. These are strong colours to catch your baby’s eyes.

Use the hidden spaces:

Hidden space means the storage spaces we normally do not use to store goods for example, under the bed or baby crib or behind the closet, etc. These are very useful if your room is smaller. Try to utilize those.

Have different change stations:

Babies need to get changed frequently. So you can make two or three change stations all over your house. It is better if you have a change station in every room. This will make your job easier when it needs to change the diapers of your baby.

Install a white noise machine:

You might be busy doing your job and cannot always keep an eye on your baby. By this time your baby may have a sleeping problem. To avoid this, you should use a white noise machine. This will allow soothing sound which will make your baby fall asleep.

Use a humidifier:

In humid airs, babies may have breathing issues as their lungs are not that much developed. They might be sweating also in humid weather. This sweating can turn into pneumonia. So use a humidifier to control the room humidity.

Use vertical space:

There may be a storage problem as a new member of your family has arrived in your room. In that case, use the vertical space to store goods. You can use paper boxes and can pile up them to store anything.

Use crib bumpers:

Children move a lot in their cribs. This may cause accidents. Your baby can bump its head on the side of the crib. To install a crib bumpers made of wool, cotton or soft anything that will avoid getting injured.

Cleanliness is must:

Clean your room regularly. Use disinfectants while cleaning. As babies are very sensitive, they may easily get diseases like flu or the common cold. Their sensitive skin may get rashes. The most effective way to control these diseases is precautions. Be careful about cleaning baby dresses and rooms regularly.

You need to share your room with your newborn beloved little for at least 4 months and it is best if you keep your baby in your room for an entire year. This will help to reduce the risk of SIDS, which will be helpful for breastfeeding and also be helpful for sleeping of your kiddo.
